Pétanque League awards.
Pétanque, sometimes referred to as Boules in the UK, is a team game that can be played on almost any terrain.  The Hop Back Friendly League is played between teams of at least six players, although up to twelve players can play, for each team, in a single match.  A match comprises two games of triples and three of doubles.  In triples each player has two boules and in doubles three.

This friendly league has been in existence since the late 90’s and is as much about the social side of pétanque as the game itself.

There are currently eleven teams in the league representing five pubs/clubs located in and around the Salisbury/New Forest area.  Matches are held throughout the summer (April to September) on Tuesday evenings starting at 7.30 or 8pm.  Visitors/supporters are always welcome and, if a team is short of a player, may sometimes get a game.  Turn up at other times and ask the landlord if a player is available and you may well get an impromptu lesson or simply ask to borrow some boules and have a throw!
